Language Arts
Cambridge Writing - Fiction
We looked at different ways to start a story: action, dialogue or expression of time. Then we reviewed the story mountain (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) and students are planning their own historical story.

They have been given the plot diagram and a checklist of what is needed for their story. This must be done by Tuesday.

They were introduced to the grammar booklets this week but we have not started actual grammar lessons yet.
Novel Study – The Tale of Despereaux
We finished reading chapters 19-23. The students were very interested in how different Roscuro was compared to Despereaux. The novel summary is due Tuesday.

PYP Unit 1 – Who We Are

Students got a visit from a parent in the class and learned about how to wake up. They also tried guided meditation.

For inquiry, we have started our major project for the unit. Students picked a superhero in groups and will be analyzing their skeletal and muscular systems. Each group will also be looking at 1 or 2 more body systems of their choice. For example, the group that picked Dash will also be looking at his respiratory system.

We had a few mini lessons to introduce basic information about skeletons. Topics included:
·         Skeletons support and protect our bodies
·         Different kinds of bones
·         Skeletons and growth
·         Human and animal skeletons
