Dear Grade 4 parents,

Hello! こんにちは。
I am glad to have the students again at HORIZON to teach Japanese (Kokugo).
Every student has successfully started his or her Japanese lessons this academic year.

Please be informed about Japanese homework.
On Monday we have a Kanji test. Before the test, on Friday students have homework for practice it.Also sometimes (It depends on the Unit) they have reading homework.
Please check it with your children.
I appreciate your support.

If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to contact me.

Here is monthly Japanese class newsletter.
Please enjoy reading it.

Ms. Hayashi

The first unit from their textbook was a poem “Haru no uta”. We enjoyed reading aloud it with rhythm.
And we finished reading our first story “Shiroi boushi”. Our first impression of this story was mysterious because the girl was disappeared. After reading in description carefully, they noticed the girl might be a butterfly. Also they could notice “Matsui-san” has a gentle heart. Each student read well in turn in front of the class.
Then we learned the radical of kanji at the unit “kanji no kumitate”. Learning radical is helpful to memorize kanji and to understand the meaning of kanji. I hope the Grade 4 students learn kanji with interest.
And we are learned how to use the kanji dictionary. They are trying to get accustomed to use three different ways of looking up kanji in the dictionary. I think it will be great if they can look up kanji by themselves when they don’t know a kanji. Nowadays it is convenient to look up the kanji by computer. Even then they still need to get used to using dictionary. I hope they have a chance to use kanji dictionary not only at my class but also at home sometimes.
At the topic “Yoriyoi hanasiai o shiyou”, they learned how to express their opinion at meeting and simulated it. They practiced showing their opinion with their viewpoint, for it or against it.
We will read the story “Ookina chikara o dasu” and “Ugoite Kangaete mata Ugoku” soon.
