1. Reading Log
2. Novel Summary - The Tale of Despereaux Chapter 8-15
3. Japanese Kanji and ondoku
4. Show and Tell (Optional)
I thought we had a fantastic week! I am really enjoying how the inquiry
cycle is going and students are doing a great job doing research and learning
to organize a presentation.
Homework is now being marked and put on Jupiter. I have been making
sure students write down their homework in the planner but some students could
still use reminders at home.

Cambridge Writing - Fiction

We focused on looking at the use of
different verbs in stories. Instead of using said, they looked at alternatives like muttered, shouted, cried, etc. We also looked at different
tenses. While the focus was on past, present, and future tense.

Novel Study – The Tale of Despereaux
|
We finished
reading chapters 8 to 15. The students finished the usual comprehension and
summary sheet. I have made it clear to the students how they can do a good
job on those sheets.

PYP Unit 1 – Who We Are
|
The students did
a fantastic job doing research for their presentations. As this is the first
inquiry cycle project of the year, we focused a lot on how to organize and
cooperate.
During the week,
they finished the research section (using the Internet, books, and asking experts
like Mr. Tyler and the school nurse) and sorted and organized the information
they found. They chose their own method of presenting. Some students chose
Powerpoint presentations, others chose posters, and others had role-plays. We
will move on to actually presenting what they learned next week.

Character Education

PYP
|
During our
character education classes this week, we focused on two areas.
·
Reflecting – We put a lot of emphasis
on self-reflections in Grade 4. It is important for them to look at what they
have done, and see what they did well and what could be improved. It can be
difficult at first but they will be doing this every week. This should also
be helpful for their general writing and speaking skills.
·
We are also still learning a
few specific skills (Approaches to Learning). For the first 2 months, we are
focusing on 3 skills:
·
Organization: school materials, desks,
research, home study area
·
Cooperating: working in groups, taking
turns
·
Acquisition of knowledge: learning new
things and remember them
