The second week went very well! This is a very well behaved class. I
have been waiting for a day where everyone is here to take a class picture. It
will be done as soon as that happens!
For homework, we are still learning the routine so it will not be
assessed or marked seriously for another week or two.

Cambridge Writing - Fiction
|
Our first Cambridge unit will be about
fiction stories. The students learned about genre and are challenging
themselves to read 40 books from a variety of different genres this year.
Please encourage your child to complete the Tower of Books challenge.
We also reviewed features of stories and
fact/fiction. Finally, we looked at narrative and dialogue.

Novel Study – The Tale of Despereaux
|
We started our
novel and the students are really enjoying it. We finished reading chapters 1
to 7. We use some of the harder words from the novel in our spelling list.
The students also have to complete a comprehension worksheet and a summary
worksheet for the novel every week.

Goal Setting
PYP Approaches to Learning
|
During our
character education classes this week, we focused on two areas.
·
Students are setting specific
goals for themselves to achieve. These goals should be measurable and
relevant. The goals will be kept in their Planner folder.
·
We are also putting an emphasis
on specific skills (Approaches to Learning). We did some roleplay activities
to reinforce this idea. For the first 2 months, we are focusing on 3 skills: organization, cooperating, acquisition of
knowledge
